Function Optimally With Adequate Sleep! 😴😑😁

Hey Everyone! Welcome to ChiroDynamic’s 3rd blog post. Sleep is one of the five pillars of health that we advocate. For us to physically, mentally, and emotionally function optimally, our bodies need to have adequate rest to rejuvenate and recovery.


Negative Effects of Sleep Deprivation:

When our bodies are deprived of adequate sleep, it can lead to detrimental effects to our health. The following are negative effect of sleep deprivation.


-Memory Problem; short-term & long term

-Mood Changes; quick tempered, depression, anxiety

-Weakened Immunity; Prone to sickness

-Concentration Problem; trouble with focusing and problem-solving skills

-Accidents; Prone to Car Accident & Injuries

-High Blood Pressure; Prone to hypertension and risk of Heart Disease

-Weight Gain; Imbalanced metabolism and risk of Diabetes

-Lower Sex Drive; Lower testosterone level


Benefits of Sleep:

When our bodies get enough resting it has numerous positive effects to our health. The following are benefits to adequate sleep.


-Improve Memory; Strengthen memory and “practice” skills learned

-Longevity; Improved quality of life and prolong lifespan

-Reduce Inflammation; Reduces risk of chronic diseases

-Improve Performance; Improve physical, mental, and creative skills

-Sharpen Attention; Improved brain functions

-Healthy Weight; Controlled metabolism and retain muscle mass

-Reduce Stress & Depression; Controlled mood and reduce irritability


Adequate Sleep:

We recommend you get at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night.

The following are great ways of getting a good night’s sleep:


-Drink Warm Milk, Chamomile & Valerian Tea

-Turn off TVs, Cell-phone, Tablet, Computers, and other blue-light sources an hour before you go to bed

-Put a pillow between your legs to align your hips better when you sleep sideways

-Tuck a pillow under your knees to ease pain when you sleep on your back

-Support the natural curve of your neck when you're sleep on your back

-Finish eating at least an hour before bed

-Read something calming, meditate, listen to quiet music, or take a warm bath before bed

-Gentle mind-body exercises, like yoga or tai chi, are great to do just before sleep
